Longtime barber and Wilmington resident Ron Young will open a barber shop next Monday, Nov. 19 at 124 S. South St. in downtown Wilmington.
“As a result of the encouragement of local people and former customers, I've decided to open a shop,” said Young.
He said he will offer $7 quality hair cuts at Ron’s Barber Shop.
A Wilmington resident since 1976, Young went to Moler Barber
College in 1961. His first barbering job was at the D&J Barber Shop in Wilmington in 1961 with Bill Jones and the late Harold Davis.
He got into newspaper advertising work for a while, going to work at the Wilmington News Journal advertising department in March 1975 and 15 months later, he was promoted to advertising director at the Hillsboro Press-Gazette — like the News Journal, a part of the then-Galvin chain of newspapers.
Later, he barbered for Joel Walraven in Springboro.
Earlier this week, Walraven said of Young, “I’ve known him for 40 years, and he worked for me for more than 16 years. He’s a good barber. He can cut anybody’s hair with quality — no problem.”
The beginning hours at the shop will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays.
The phone number is 937-728-6915.
